FREDERIC ALCANTARA

Frederic Alcantara made his first trip to Western Africa in 1987, and since then dedicated his life to working with global artisan resources. Working on behalf of NGOs such as Aid to Artisans, he designed and developed collections with artisans in Mali, Egypt, Ghana, Mozambique, South Africa, Pakistan, Haiti, Romania, Macedonia, Bolivia, El Salvador, Afghanistan, and Morocco (to name a few).

Frederic created Alcantara-Frederic in 2009 driven by the desire to showcase Moroccan artistry on a more global scale. Frederic’s goal was to work with artisans to keep cultural traditions alive, and to bring environmental consciousness to the forefront of design. He passed away in his beloved farm in Marrakech, Morocco in July, 2021. Frederic continues to be deeply missed as we continue his work and legacy at Alcantara-Frederic.
